Is it possible to import Indian rosewood?

Answer: China does not prohibit the import of Indian rosewood, but Indian rosewood (scientific name: Pterocarpus santalinus) is an endangered species, and its import and export require certification from the national wildlife authority. We only need to obtain an export permit for endangered wild flora and fauna from India (CITES, also known as the Washington Convention), and then apply to the domestic wildlife authority for an import permit (commonly known as an endangered species certificate) to declare the import to customs.

However, India has legislation prohibiting the export of Indian rosewood, so it is impossible to obtain the necessary certification, meaning CITES cannot be issued, and therefore an import permit cannot be obtained domestically. This means customs declaration is impossible, and importing Indian rosewood through general trade import customs declaration is not feasible!
